Why Indoor Cricket?

Indoor cricket has various features and benefits that attract people of all ages and abilities to participate in a game that provides fitness, good fun, and the chance to compete and win, whatever your skill level:

  • The games can be graded similarly to the handicap system in golf, making indoor cricket an inclusive experience for everybody from professional players to family and friends.
  • The development program brings children into the game, encouraging them to improve through their teenage years, and retains them as they become adults, when they stay fit while having fun.
  • Parents attend the development sessions for children, and become players or social participants.
  • Adults that have stopped playing outdoor cricket due to time constraints are encouraged to return to the game, and their spouses and children can participate as players or spectators.
  • The layout of indoor cricket arenas promotes enthusiastic interaction between players and spectators while the games are in progress.
  • The local arena becomes a destination for community entertainment.
  • Indoor cricket attracts wide ranging publicity through the participation of children and women, and regular TV coverage is a feature of the game in the southern hemisphere.

“With the forthcoming involvement of Cricket Australia in the 2009 WICF World Cup in Brisbane, there has never been a more exciting time to be playing indoor cricket, as the establishment has finally realised the true value of our game, and the skill and commitment of our players.”

The above comment by Greg Donnolly, President of Indoor Cricket Australia, says it all, and with the ‘step change’ from the England Indoor Cricket Association to Indoor Cricket England, 2008/2009 is the perfect opportunity for the 8-a-side indoor game to be perceived to be professional, because we are professional.
